Soulmates: The Inspiration Behind My New Fashion Jewelry Collection

Today, I’m thrilled to share the inspiration behind my latest jewelry collection, “Soulmates.” This collection draws its essence from the intriguing Greek myth of soulmates, as told by Plato in “The Symposium.” Let’s dive into this captivating story and see how it inspired the pieces in my collection.
According to Greek mythology, humans were created with four arms, four legs, and a single head with two faces. These beings were mighty, fearless, and strong. They were so mighty that they even dared to challenge the gods, threatening to overthrow them and take their place as the new rulers of the cosmos.
The gods, naturally, were not too pleased with this audacity. They needed to find a way to curb the humans’ power and restore balance. Zeus, the king of the gods, came up with a clever solution. He decided to split these formidable creatures in half, thereby reducing their strength and punishing them for their hubris. By doing so, Zeus also doubled the human population, which meant more tributes and offerings to the gods.
And so it was done. Humans were split into two separate beings, each with two arms, legs, and face. This drastic change left the newly divided humans in deep despair. They were miserable, constantly yearning for their lost other halves. They felt incomplete, as if a vital part of their very essence was missing. Their sorrow was so profound that they wouldn’t eat or drink for days, caring little about their survival.
Apollo, the god of music, truth, prophecy, healing, and light, couldn’t stand to see the humans in such agony. To alleviate their suffering, he decided to sew them up, reconstituting their bodies into the forms we recognize today. He left the navel as a reminder of their original, complete form. Now, humans had just one face, two arms, and two legs, but they carried with them an eternal longing for their other halves—their soulmates.
This myth beautifully captures the essence of human connection and the deep desire to find one’s true counterpart. The story goes that when these two halves find each other, there is an immediate, silent understanding between them. They feel an unbreakable bond, a sense of completeness that brings unparalleled joy and fulfillment. They exist in perfect harmony as if they were always meant to be together.
Inspired by this timeless tale, I designed my “Soulmates” collection to symbolize the journey of finding one’s other half. Each piece in this collection reflects the themes of unity, connection, and the beauty of coming together as one.
